I hope this is ok with the mod, but I think some pretty good info here. While never owning a martini rifle, I find them to be one of the most interesting tho somewhat unusual rifles out there. Perhaps this could help members out on questions?

No problem here expanding the knowledge base.
Martini rifles are very interesting and are a great way for a budding collector to get into a genuine 19th Century rifle in either a BP cartridge or the 303 British.
They are not without their limitations though.
In fact, the fat squat 577/450 cartridge came about in order to allow a .45cal cartridge with a big powder charge to "get around the corner" in the Martini action. This is mentioned in your link.

Thanks Huvius. I have been wanting a big martini for a while now, but they seem to be hard to find around here

I capture this

looks like a lot of work but what do you believe this could be "450"?

A view of the rear of the chamber should tell you if it is chambered for a necked .577 case.

Since the ladder goes to over 700yards, indicating a long range capability, I suggest a 480gr. to 500gr. bullet - thus, perhaps a .577/450. The .450 #2 and .450 Express light weight bullets to 350gr. would not have such - narrow spacing on the sights to 700yards, I think, - just an offhand thought.

I hope you take that as a joke, as that was how it was intended. That is a beautiful rifle, my question is where are you guys finding these rifles at? I look and look, and do not find any. I think everyone here is just hoarding the market

The Field's patent tipping block action is quite different than the Martini patent action and much more rare. Great buy!
Joshua, I have a Martini sporting carbine in 577/450 I would sell if you are in the market. Shoot me a PM and I can tell you about it.

Huvius, PM sent. And yes, I would definitely be in the mood to acquire one, tho it may take some time to get all the money up if you would work with that. I could possibly add a trade with it to help cover some of the cost if that would work for you as well
