Westley Richards Droplock in .470
      #27910 - 18/03/05 01:44 AM

All:

I am hoping for an opinion here:

I know this question will be based on the condition of the rifle, but let's assume the rifle in question is in excellent condition, on face, excellen bores and exhibition grade wood. How much could a person expect to pay for a Westley Richards hand detachable drop lock with traditional scroll engraving, gold name, in .470 NE?

I may have the chance to pick one up at what I think is a good price.

Thanks,

I would expect it to retail in the $28K to $35K range, unless it were at the HH store, in which case it would retail for $45K.

I'd say at the high end of that estimate. Say $35K... the .470 is the pricey caliber!

the drop-locks seem to come in at near comparable sidelock prices. If the gun were right, I'd say at 25K you got a good deal and at 30K you got a fair deal.

Those are hard-money numbers, based on my experience that a 35K asking price can usually be had for 30K, etc...

Re-reading these posts, no one considered engraving. That could make thousands of dollars of difference, too.

I'd want to know if that "excellent condition" was excellent "ORIGINAL" condition or "REFINISHED" to excellent condition.
If refinished, I'd then want to know by who.
Makes a big difference when you're up in that 30 k price range IMO.

Yes, plus many other variables.

I think we have to assume that it has a standard, in-house engraved pattern.

Brown Bro., Ken Hunt, Phil Coggan, etc... and you can almost double those prices.

I was visiting Boss&co a year ago and there they had a WR. D.L. in 577 at 20000£ That was a nice rifle. I have photoes of it but I don't know how to post it.
