HUnting with Escimo's ?
      #2787 - 12/05/03 08:33 PM

I saw a national geographic program last night about a Man who wnated to show his son how to hunt and gather food in north Alaska they hunted seals, walrus and caribou and also did some good fishing it loked very neat and different but I would love to have such an expereince spending a month with them hunting with them in their way it would be really neat.

Does anybody know if there is any kind of outfits who actualy sell hunts like that. All I'm really worried about is the food they eat and the cold but for the experience I would go that is if I had the money.

What do you guys think of such a hunting expereince ?

I remember studying eskimo's when I was a young fella. I would also like to see them hunt. They have a lot of patience, you need it waiting over a breathing hole all day!

Probably the greatest hunters made those fella`s,i remember a good story told by my dad about how an eskimo would find a polar bear and throw it fish balls frozen with sharpened whalebone daggers inside which the bear would swallow and on thawing out would pierce the bears guts resulting in haemorages, the eskimo hunter would follow the bear by tracking until it died which may take a week or so and the top men would survive by eating the blood out of the bears [censored],and we call ourselves hunters??????????
Gotta be a tough man to do that sort of stuff eh?

I think the eskimos know what they are doing.

I saw on TV once an eskimo hunt and they were using nothing more than 223s or something like that. Shows you don't have to use there overpowered guns at all if you know what you are doing.

If you ever get the itch to hunt Polar Bears in North America your only option is to hunt with an eskimo (inuit actually) native guide. You are only allowed to chase them with the use of a dog sled. It is a grueling and $$$$$$$$ hunt but if you have a spare $18,000+ US dollars burning a hole in your pocket you can do a hunt like this!

Those shows are made for TV. It's far from normal today. Snowmobiles replaced dogs years ago and harpoons were replaced with mini 14's. except for whales. I don't think that white man can hunt polar bears because of being protected under the international Marine Mammals Act. They are still hunted by the Eskimos but they are allowed to.

Well in Nunawiut, in Canada , white folks can hunt with the escimos, the have a few licences every year ,some the keep for them selves, other they sell. Jan Guillou, a Swedish Author and hunter, he hunta 100-150 days a year, has been there for hunting. And it was taped, so i have seen it a few other hunts on the tele.
