Another Double Joining our collection
      #27868 - 17/03/05 10:20 AM

Well, today I had a chance to check out some DRs at a private collector's home.

As of today, my pop and I, Doc53, are proud owners of a Westley Richards Boxlock .500 NE. The gun looks absolutely beautiful to us. I take possession in about 2 weeks and plan on bringing it on the DRSS hunt in April.

If I knew how to post pics I would post a few of them for all to see. Can anyone help me out with this?

JudgeG....THANKS.

Clark:

I accept your thanks! Remember that I had the chance to get the pick of the litter and chose the Westley Richards .450/.400 3 1/4" about which I've posted... I got a really great rifle, as I'm sure you did! Mr. "M" is a great guy. Did he show you his entries in the SCI book... something like 30 top tens between him and his wife! .... and he's not entered some of the better animals. The whitetails he has seem all to be 180+ (both typical and non-typical), and all taken on unfenced land in Canada.

If you'll e-mail me a picture, I'll post it.

I'm having some work/daddy problems and am in danger of finking out for the second year for the DRSS goat-rope. I'll keep you posted, though.

Clark,

That sounds fantastic! Was this a collector in the NOVA area?

Give us some details even if you're not ready to post pics.

A general description would be good.

Now you are the proud owner of two .500 NE's.

Best,
Curl

Clark,

Congradulation!

Are you holding out on us on information about a NOVA source of doubles?

There will be quite a few double rifles present at our DRSS Hunt. It should prove very interesting to compare handling, recoil, etc between the different rifles.
Looks like we will have 9,3,s 400,s 450,s 470,s and at least one 500.

Nitro X How many prize catagories should we have?

NE450No2:

For the guys going to the DRSS in April, are you bringing more than one of your doubles? Rusty said that we should bring all of our collections so we can take some pictures of all of them together.

If that's still the plan, I'll plan on flying down with two of mine. If not, just for traveling plans, I may only bring one.

Paul, If you can bring two and some ammo for both. This is one of those rare occasions where there are multiple double rifles in one camp at the same time. I am bringing all of mine.

Congratulations. Sounds wonderful! Hope you kill a great pig hog with it.

Rusty has offered to host your photos. I can do it too but Rusty might be better at the moment as it is my work busy season.

NE450No2

I am hoping to send a dozen box so 12 categories would be good. One each to each participant would be the plan. Fun categories are the best as well as slightly more serious eg

- heaviest pig;
- best sidelock double rifle used (not the used not just displayed!);
- best boxlock double;
- ugliest double rifle;
- bigest bore (could have a double or even triple meaning);
- the participant who says the word Searcy the most;
- most dangerous DG double rifle - perhaps an U/O in a belted magnum and wearing a scope - how will the fellow survive!
- best shot on game during the hunt
- etc.

Make them up and make sure all participants get a prize and a category

It will be a tight squeeze to get them there in time. I will PM or email how this goes. They may get there late so people would have to get hold of them by other means .

Heh heh heh

Hey yeah and don't forget auto safety single inertia trigger and ejectors!

Nah, anyone who's ever used such rifles would have been mauled stomped trampled and horned years ago!

All:

The pictures that I took did not come out, but I take possession of the rifle tomorrow (Monday) and will get some decent pictures for all to see.
