I'd love to see the .416 Rigby mentioned in his book. I wonder if its whereabouts are known?

Nicky may not have it: he was using a .416 Remington built on a pre-64 Model 70 Winchester 25 years ago when Boddington published the 2nd edition of "Safari Rifles".

That's not something I would carry if I already had access to a .416 Rigby.

I haven't seen any mention of a rifle attributed to Blunt in the 12 or 15 years I've been scouring auction catalogues, so maybe his son (or a friend) still has it. But you never know, it may be in the hands of someone who doesn't know the history. Hemingway's G&H Springfield has been missing since it was stolen from his son in the 70's and then there's the .505 Gibbs that no one seems to have seen (also a G&H).

Nice looking .275 by the way!

Good thread.

The fore-end stocks are shorter than the "classic American" stocks.

I should have had my Whitworth .375 made with a shorter fore-end.

Here is a link to the page where the picture came from. It came up in a Google Images search for 275 Rigby pictures. The page mentions the connection to a Major Blunt. I saved it only because I think it is an exceptionally handsome rifle. web page

I am fortunate enough to have an original edition of " Elephant"...inscribed by Blunt.....

As close as Ill get to anything from the Blunt stable!!

That is one nice Rigby ! The very short forearm (without ebony tip) and round knob grip gives the light Rigby magazine rifle a distinct look. The grip curve is nice and open for quick handling. Also notice how the checkering pattern complements the rounded grip shape. Rigby sure didn't leave any extra wood on there forearms! However the short forearm does place your hand at the proper balancing point for offhand shooting. I also like how the trigger guard is perfectly shaped and adds to the overall rounded look of the stock.

I would really like to see its big brother the 416 as well. That way we could compare how Rigby handled the stock design for there big bore rifles.

John: Rigby S/N is #1580. Mauser S/N is #1361 (1899). Sold to Ernest Amherst Villiers (MP for Brighton 1905-1910) on 27 August, 1900. I have forwarded this information and some photos to Marc.
