Just for fun...Help me compile a list of Rigby users..
      #275013 - 13/12/15 05:00 PM

So I can research the adventures they went on with these guns!
So far I have:

Harry Shelby- .416 Rigby Mauser

Karimijo Bell- .275&416 Rigby Mauser

Winston Churchill- mauser C96 from Rigby

Jim Corbett- .275 Rigby Mauser

Anything else added would be great!

Did Roosevelt or any other American use a Rigby?

Did Custer ever say anything about his Rigby? A quote about how he loved it?

Quote gundog01: Winston Churchill- mauser C96 from Rigby

Wrong! While Rigby was the sole British importer for Mauser rifles, Westley Richards had the British monopoly as a distributor for Mauser C96 pistols. Winston Churchill got his C96 from Westley Richards, Birmingham and London.

According to John Rigby"s website, they claim Churchill purchased the 96 from them. I belive they would know best.

He got his rifle as a present from his colleague but there is no mention of his opinion of rifle.

The Cottars (Kenya) used a Sidelock Rigby .500NE double from the early 1930's. It was originally built for a Captain de Courcy in 1908.
It was still in the Cottar family in the late 1990's.

Jack Lott owned and used a sidelock Rigby .450 3 1/4" NE double.
He wrote that it was one of his favourite doubles.

Truesdell's book, The Rifle and its Development For Big Game Hunting, contains lists of who used what concerning makers and calibres.
The Rigby name shows up quite a lot in these lists.

Dave Omanney - Rigby .470 NE.
Tony Seth-Smith - Rigby .470 NE.
Harry Selby started off his career carrying a Rigby .470 sidelock.
Ross Syfried has (or had-I'm not sure) a Rigby sidelock .577 NE - a rare beast!
Russ Aitken owned and used a rising-bite .470 NE for many years. It is now owned by a friend of mine. I know the rifle real well and have shot it many times.
Pete "Samaki" Salmon - Rigby .416.
David Blunt - Rigby .416.
Tony Sanchez-Arino - Rigby .416.
There must be many more.

HRH Queen Elizabeth 2nd. Has the only Rigby sporting rifle built in 1943 during WW2, 275 Rigby (7X57) Recently someone asked about it, HRH replied that the "Boys" had it....Prince William and Harry?
Rigby recently built a replica of this rifle for the 2013 SCI convention.
