I understand it has a reputation for ultra high pressures, and damaging rifles.

My question relates to the rifle.

As far i know , this sort of rifles are to have in 25-06 and 264 Winchester Magnum too.

Solid well built rifles. I have handled the a few times and the scopes are very low mounted which helps. Often the turrets to adjust scope have been removed - but then once sighted the whole idea was that it should n't move. The scope mount clamps both the scope and the action and is very strong, and is either very elegant or pig ugly depending on your point of view. Its less ugly to my mind than a pica tinny rail on a fine rifle.

Someone mention pig ugly, make that a warthog. Rifle looks nice enough but those scope mounts are radical.

Nice rifle , indeed. But my concerns are also for this fixed scopes and the 4x or 6x magnifying , surprising for a long range rifle. Also you depend of the factory loads used for the regulation , a problem with the 244 H&H.

Don't know who David Lloyd is, but that is a very nice rifle(lousy calibre - we hates it), pictured by Igorrock.

If it is regulated to the scope and no way to adjust the scope, then that should be easily within the capabilities of handloading.

David Llewellyn Lloyd, 1910 1996, Kettering, Northants, UK, was a specialized rifle maker. In the 1950s to 60s he tried to design a "perfect modern stalking rifle" with a low mounted scope that would never loose zero despite heavy knocks. So he designed this scope Mount and rifle style. He preferred small bore HV cartrridges for deer Stalking. He is said to be the real designer of the .244 H&H Magnum cartridge. Rifles made by him, or at least to his design, were also retailed by H&H and John Wilkes.
His Mounts and scopes are adjustable, though not as easy. Windage adjustment is by the Allan head screws at the rear end. Elevation adjustment is sometimes covered by a solid steel plate screwed on to of scope and mount. So you need several tools to resight some of his rifles.

Seems like a solution (and an ugly one at that) to a problem that doesn´t exist ? or am I missing something ?

Lovely rifles no question about that and in a calibre that could be said to be one of the forerunners to today's ultramag.

If you're not happy with the current sighting arrangement, what about just slapping an appropriate set of new scope and mounts on it? You can always keep what is on it if you want to put her back to original.

Considering for most people, it would be a hand-loading-only proposition, the pressures are exactly what you make them. It would be a bit of a barrel burner, I'd expect.

My only experience with a Lloyd rifle was helping spot for one while the lads from Fultons of Bisley tested it out as the customer was complaining about poor accuracy. The testing also showed this lack of accuracy in fact it was pretty dreadful. Looked more like a target from an old iron sighted worn 303 Lee Enfield than a super scope sighted precison stalking rifle.

How good a shot was the shooter?

Excellent they roped in Ken the chairman of a rifle club there who not only competed but was ex British Sniper. Those days I was a RCO for the NRA so was over seeing the firing on the point. Ranges was 200 yards on the far right of the Short Siberia range shooting the lanes next to the McQueens target. It was the chairman that got the McQueens set up installed on the Short Siberia range to allow proper practice for the McQueens comp at the annual Imperial meeting at Bisley.

Two others also tried unsuccessfully to get a decent group and they tried several types of ammunition to no avail. The rifle looked well put together but there was something not right as it just would not group. The grouping was so poor that if it was used for it's intended purpose then the range to guarantee a kill on a Roe Deer would have to be about 50 yards maximum then it should have been possible to be certain of a body hit.

I saw Ken trying a new handload out at 100 yards at Bisley one day through his Parker-Hale 84 target rifle and the five shots were almost touching. Group size was in the 5/8-7/8" group size and this was using the target aperture sights NOT a scope. The new load was one using the Speer .308 Plinker bullet.

I let fall the first option because impossible to get ammo , or information about , 244 H&H for this rifle.

I have a other option by Rigby in London , a LLoyd rifle caliber 7mm Rem Mag , but i fear that i will have the same problem.

I like very much the rifle line and if you have patience it isn't so rare to see on of them on auction around the europe.

I also like the lines and his treatment of the bolt handle, which is as unique as the prewar H&H bolt rifles and also the Frasers. It would be a great little rifle done about 85% scale in .250 Savage or .35 Remington. I don't think he made any such rifles though. I have seen only 7mm Rem Mag, .244 H&H, and .264 Win. He might have made a few in .300 H&H. He was definitely after ultra flat shooting, high velocity cartridges.

Please post some photos and also tell us how it shoots.

I still think a more versatile scope and mounts setup is preferable for me at least on accurate flat shooting chamberings, where one wants it sighted perfectly spot on.

The rifles do have racy lines though.

There was a 3 part article on the 244 H & H with reloading data in Precision Shooeter a few years ago. I have the articles if you want them.
