HELP - Who re-regulated my Sabatti 500 NE ?

Hello all,

I just bought a very nice Sabatti 92 Safari Deluxe in 500 NE caliber. It has been re-regulated, but there was no target or any indication of "who" did the work. It appears that whoever did the re-regulating also tuned the triggers, (smooth 5-1/2 and 6-1/2 lbs) and also upgraded to a NECG recoil pad.

The wedge has been left protruding, so this may be a clue. I know that JJ does this on occasion, having done so on one of my other doubles that he regulated for me.

I've talked with Ken Owen, and its not his work. Not sure who else does Sabatti re-regulation. I've been told not too many gunsmiths will re-regulate them because the barrels lack a wedge and are hard soldered.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to find out what ammo its regulated to before going through a lot of trial and error.

Hello gungadoug,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I spoke with JJ and he said he only did one Sabatti, and this wasn't it, and he cares not to do any more of them. I also spoke with Ken Owen and he said this was not his work. Same for Aaron Little, not his work either.

Anyone know of others that re-regulated Sabatti doubles?

The rifle same from colorado so I suspect the rifle's former owner was from there. I'm hoping someone from Colorado may be familiar with the gun, the former owner, or the re-regulator.

Can't help on who did the work, but in my most humble opinion, it needs some Wipe-Out Foam and an overnight soak - probably remove all that copper fouling - until you shoot it again, that is.

I am surprised at the amount of copper in the muzzles.

Amazingly enough, the rifling lands appear to be matched in rotation. I've not seen that, or perhaps didn't recognize it before in other muzzle "shots". The coppering makes it quite vivid.

I think I would green or red Scotch-Brite the bore. Square of Scoth-Brite over a jag - tight, with some light lube like WD40- scrub maybe 30 strokes.

Auto-sol or Flitz on a very tight patch would also help and be less intrusive than the Scotch-Brite.

This should reduce the coppering.

Hello Daryl_S

Thanks for the reply.

Actually the copper fowling is not a problem. I've fired over 150 rounds through the rifle with no issues.
