(DUMMY) Inert 7.92 (8mm) ammunition
      #272108 - 25/10/15 09:56 AM

Gentlemen,
Can somebody direct me to a company or on line shop that sells (DUMMY) INERT 7.92 (8mm) rounds?
I would like to test the action of a Gew98 without having to use live rounds.
Any help would be appreciated. I am in the USA

Have you tried A-Zoom a Pachmayr company. They make snap caps for most calibres.

Any handloader can whip you up as many as you want, given the proper components and dies. The ones I make for myself have holes drilled in them laterally, so they can't be mistaken for live rounds. How many would you like?

You may also buy them from most European outfitters. Hereafter is the link to Frankonia http://www.frankonia.fr/munitions-et-rec...ted=f_s_kaliber , which sells the pack of two 8x57JS (7.92 Mauser) snap caps for c. Euro 17(circa USD 19, plus postage fees).

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your response and pointing me in the right direction. Now to try and find a "Stripper Clip" that will fit the Gew98. Any ideas as to a manufacturer or shop that sells them in the USA?

Again, how many do you want?

Of course you can safely cycle live ammunition through your Mauser simply by removing the firing pin-striker-bolt sleeve unit beforehand.

What do you use instead of a primer? A spent primer or ?

Exactly, John.

Just use a spent primer or even no primer, empty primer pocket.

To test the function of the action, there is no need to dry fire the gun, but with a bolt gun, will do no harm anyway - at least with Mausers.

Size, load a bullet and spent primer or simply leave the primer pocket empty. That way they are easily identified.

Victoriangent, PM me your mailing address, and I'll send you a couple of stripper clips for the 98.
