Staffan in the world of boar dogs ,roo dogs or any of the staghound breeds (lurchers) its very common to lose a dog.

I can go through my memory on how I have lost a few dogs by broken neck, broken back, boar kills etc and its only ever the 'good ones' that go this way as they are the triers.

To lose a good one out of ones pack is for sombre times but it is inevitable in the rough and tough world of catching dogs.

I was out with my two hooligans last week, on the first driven pheasant day of the season.

Steve

Lovely dogs and also photos.

Hooligans is a great term.

My "Houdini" greeted me late last night when returning in the dark, outside of his locked enclosure on the drive in front of the house. So I checked his perimeter. The roller door had his usual attempts to create a sideways sqeeze through gap, but the solidish gravel there and gap didn't look wide enough. A "temporary" mesh gate may have had a gap he could force his way through. A catch lower down might be needed I though. The back gate was locked. AHA! A two inch gap between the water tank and a shed encourage him to dig a hole underneath and houdini escaped through there.

I refer to him as Houdini as in his youth he could escape from anywhere, climb up ladders, climb a seven foot mesh fence like a ladder, dig under mesh fences and squeeze through wriggling sideways underneath. Move big rocks and bricks out of the way ... bit by bit, his great escape routes were discovered and the stalag fences strengthened and then re-strengthened, a bad wound discouraged him from climbing the fences ... Houdini gave up for many years, but alas is back to his great escapee ways ...

Houdini is of couse my GSP Blitzen.

Was looking at this thread again.

OLD Houdini has resumed his ways. He at the age of ten has resumed his ability to escape the yard. By climbing the six and seven foot fence/gate to escape.

Back onto a chain on a post now if I leave him at home. ALWAYS wrapped aporund something when I get home.

Little monster.
