I have just read about a Safari hunting license as follows:

If you want a complete sickener read page 102 of Elmer Keith's "Big Game Rifles and Cartridges" published in 1936.

"prices of the various makes of British arms vary considerably and Holland & Holland, Rigby, Lancaster and Stephen Grant usually charge 140 pounds for their best quality sidelocks, while the same quality rifle, as far as I have been able to tell, from Jeffery costs 110 pounds."

That's $269 US and $211 US respectively. I think I need to lie down in a darkened room and sob my heart out!!

I noticed that Stoeger in 1952 advertised the Holland & Holland "Modele De Luxe" sidelock for 375.00 pounds and could set you up to hunt tigers with it for the following in 1956:

One person for 10 days and 2 tigers.........$1,000.00
To........
Four persons for 30 days hunt... per hunter and 6 tigers each...$2,240.00 with no limits on other game.
