30 Nosler
      #270094 - 07/09/15 11:32 AM

Just read a report in EASTMAN'S JOURNAL..true to their word, Nosler is coming out with a 30 Nosler in 2016..the report I read, it is claiming the loads used were approximately 8 gr less of powder for similar results to the 300RUM..whether that is true or not shall remain to be seen..

Yup, because the 300H&H, 308 Norma, 300 Winchester, 300 Weatherby, 30-338, the three 300 shot magnums (Remington, Winchester, Ruger) the Lazaroni offering, the 300 Rem Ultra mag and the 30-378 are simply not enough. We just have to have one from Nosler......................don't we?

I own a 300 H&H, and also rifles in 308 (7.62 NATO) and 30-06.
In those 3 cartridges I have a lot of over-lap, meaning that the mission statement of each rifle is ballistically covered pretty well by the others. Deer, antelope, elk, moose, bears, as well as making hits if needed out to 1000 on paper. The 300 does the long range game better then the 308, but both can be made to work. The 308 is more economical to fire than the 300, and the 30-06 fits well between the other 2.

Every time I hear about some new 300 "Stupendous Magnum" I have to yawn.

I like to shoot and I shoot a lot. I see no reason that makes me want to re-barrel my rifles more often. My 300 H&H gets only a few rounds a year. Maybe 150-200
My 308s get a LOT more, maybe 1500 each, and my 30-06s get about 600 a year each. This is just my 30 caliber shooting. There is much more shooting done from other bore sizes, so economy of ammunition is important to me.

Of the three 30 calibers mentioned above that I shoot they all do all I ask of them every time I ask it of them.

I am a full time gunsmith and I have shot quite a few of the newer bigger magnums setting them up for customers. I have to say I am unimpressed by the amount of speed I can get from them when I compare it to what that speed comes out costing in the end. To me it's simply not worth the extra powder and barrel life.

Other than a .30 Super (H&H) Flanged, you have it all covered already!

It's been quite a while since I had a larger cased .30. My short-range match rifle is a .30BR, but will handle 165'sd at about 2,450fps if I needed to use it for deer or BBear(I don't)
Am considering purchasing a .308 Ruger MK11 International from a friend. I have that rifle in .243 (purchased from him), but do miss the .308 round.

The .308 makes a wonderful addition to any battery.

I have no need nor desire for a .30 magnum - been there numerous times.

For long range big game, my .375 '06/IMP is sighted to 400yards - 200yards more than I'll ever need Here.

Like the stock design. Nice sights, decent barrel length. Scope mounted for heads-up fast shooting. Nice~!

Between my wife and I we have guns in the following calibers: 303 Brithish, 308, 30-06, 300WSM, 300 Win Mag, 300 Weatherby mag, 300 Ultra Mag..and will probably have one in the 30Nosler.. If you are happy with what you have that is great however I welcome more. ..

I realize its not for everyone..but in my opinion, life is too short for one caliber..its like having one girlfriend..how do you know she's any good unless you have something to compare it to??

For where I live, the 30 caliber is one of the best choices for all around hunting...deer, elk, bear, etc..especially when using 200 gr bullets for the magnums..but I also like a lot of other calibers..so I do not restrict my hunting with those only.

As to barrel life, I will paraphrase the famous gun maker Melvin Forbes years ago while shooting prairie dogs in SD ...his barrel was really hot and a friend asked him if he was worried about damaging the rifle..to which he responded.."The last I checked they still make rifle barrels but I may never have this opportunity again". With that he kept shooting. That pretty much sums it up for me..
