After following some of the threads on this site, I took the plunge and decided to have a Mauser sporter built, in the spirit of a Rigby in 275 (aka 7X57 Mauser). Starting with a 1900 Danzig action, the action's been trued and rebarreled, with a new bolt handle, express sights and front barrel sling swivel. The metal work has been done by Bill Jacobs of Bolt and Barrel Gunsmithing (Telephone: 864-993-2522/ Email: clemsongunsmith@hotmail.com) and the stockwork is currently being done by Mark Novak in South Carolina. I'll share more photos as they come in!

I have to ask, simply because I play about with a little wood from time to time, but is there an unseen reason for laying out the b/a on the blank in this way. I expect there will be some cast to the stock but the blank looks to be amply thick enough to have the b/a laid out to take advantage of the straight(er) grain for the forestock and still have sufficient thickness to allow for cast.

Great question, and one that crossed my mind as well. I'm playing phone tag with Mark and will ask when I do catch up with him.

Nice looking project!
IMO and based on no technical experience I reckon he will get another stock out of that blank the way it is set out. But I will stand to be corrected.

My thought as well when I looked. If you ask for the balance of the blank, you may be able to make a matched pair. A little .22 with matching stock would make a lovely combination. LesLeeSpeed.

Nice, I just picked up an original zkk600 in 7x57, interested to see how yours turns out.

Great job. I have great respect for those who can do this I only wish I could. Is the bolt handle a new one welded on?

The new bolt handle is from Alaskan Arms. From a conversation with Mark, the stock layout is to take advantage of some figure in the blank. I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures.
