Quickest method to reload Ruger #1?
      #269285 - 16/08/15 03:02 AM

I saw an add for a wrist device to hold cartridges, then there's the cartridge belt, or the old 'Bwana shirt/jacket' with loops above the pocket. What have you found as the fastest way to reload the No. 1? BTW, mine is a .416 Rigby....love it!

Hi HillBilly,
I use an elastic wrist cartridge holder in BGRC competition. You can use one of the buttstock type that slip over the butt. Just slip it over your wrist. I use the same when using a double. My fingers have been trimmed in an industrial accident, so holding cartridges between my stumps is not all that successful.

Les, I like how you describe your fingers as having been trimmed.

They have their advantages, I haven't worked out what they are yet, but there must be some. It also makes it a bit hard to hang onto the forend of heavier kickers.

I use both wrist band and safari jacket, though due to the cartridge sizes I use, I use the wrist band with the double and the jacket with the No. 1

I honestly don't think there is much in it, you just have to get used to whichever you choose...but I found the trick with the double is to grab them in a way they are spaced in your fingers to just drop into the chambers of the broken gun, but that's not exactly relevant to a single shot!!

In this rather effete looking safari jacket, the left breast pocket has a fake flap and inside the pocket are five elasticized cartridge sleeves which easily accommodated my .300 H&H, .375 H&H, .458 Winchester Magnum and .505 SRE (based on the .460 Weatherby) cartridges. I found the jacket very comfortable and the cartridges very accessible. Once manufactured by 10-X Manufacturing Company, which for all I know, no longer exists.

You can see the pocket sagging somewhat under the weight of the cartridges.
