Loading old Kynoch solids
      #26803 - 25/02/05 04:11 AM

Guys,

Somewhere along the path I acquired some old Kynoch solid projectiles for the .470 NE. Box would have made a nice collectors item if it had not been written on.

Any reason not to load and shoot them? (I have a Searcy Field Grade double).

Thanks,

No reason at all!

Kynock solids tapered slightly from the base to the beginning of the ogive, so it is probably best to crimp.

Where is the crimp-groove/cannelure? Many early Kynoch bullets were stab-crimped just above the base.

The box or its contents may still be valued by collectors. Its possible someone may be happy to swap them for an equivalent number of modern solids, perhaps with a few beers thrown in! Might be worth running this up the flag-pole before shooting them all off.
