Yet more Oman fishing

It has been a much better year for fishing here. I think in the main as a result of our decision not to wet a line until we see sign of fish, whether it be seabird activity, dolphins on the hunt, something as simple as a piece of flotsam/jetsum or occasionally, fish! I like this approach as it is hunting rather than "chuck and chance fishing"

Earlier this year, as there were large numbers of school Dorado about we decided to see if we could catch one on the 3wt. Here is the result. (We caught several more on the light tackle and moved on to 10 and 12wt gear. We ended up with a catch of 38 dorado up to 10kgs, a true red letter day)

Cool! I could hear that little rod screaming - stop, stop, I'm bending too far. LOL

I'd think, for fish that size and a bit bigger, from a boat, 7 or 8 would be about perfect. 10KG? - yes, even heavier rods by all means.

Come on over - I give lessons, but there are a bunch of locals (Australians) there know how - see Mick.

In a month a cousin from Ontario & her cousin form Victoria (BC) are visiting and we're going fly fishing for 2 species of Pacific Salmon - along with sea-run Dolly Varden and Rainbows/Steelhead.

August are good months. I do not target Springs with a fly rod. My 15' Orvis % Sage 11 wgt's are not up (heavy enough) to those. the ocean would be one thing, but a flowing river- no dice.
