Pump guns- how quickly can they be shot?
      #266996 - 26/06/15 08:53 AM

This is to demonstrate that you do not need ( & actually do not want) a semi-auto for fast shooting with a shotgun.

With a pump, when working the slide, the ejection is automatic and slamming the slide back brings the barrel back on target. With an autoloader, you must physically pull the gun back onto target.

With the pump, it's an automatic result to the physical action of working the slide - properly. With the Rem. M870, my old J.C. Higgen's Riot gun and my current M835 Marlin, you must have your timing right as you cannot hold the trigger back for auto fire as the slide comes forward as in a Winchester M12 (or 1897). You must slap the trigger at the right time. Once learned, it does not take long to "get your timing back".

This man is very impressive. Enjoy!

Impressive.

From what I've read, Hemingway's favorite was his Model 12.

Slam-firing I think they called it.

The guns I noted cannot be slam-fired. One must consciously pull the trigger after the gun has gone into battery. It's all about timing.

The M12 and 1897's are much more difficult to hit with when 'slam firing' - of course, at 10 feet, the accuracy is all that is needed.

One does have to slow down a bit when shooting buckshot and slugs due to increased recoil over trap loads.

Modern trap loads with 1oz and 7/8oz. are a joke, but break birds. In the video, John was using real trap loads, 1 1/8oz and 3 drams - the only trap load 20 years ago, I believe.

John Satterwhite in the video above, Died at age 70. RIP.

Always had doubles and autos then bought a cheap Chinese pump off a buddy. Got some Rio buckshot and had some real fun. Notice the faster I shot the better I got like Daryl said the slamming of the slide brought u back on or near target
