First time posting here and just had to mention something.
I did a search for Dutch Mannlicher scope and found this posting. Funny thing is that I am the one who bought this rifle off of Gun Broker and it was the intriguing scope mount that sold me on it. While it does need some work it is actually in far nicer shape than the pictures show. I am currently in the process of restoring the rifle. And yes I am replacing all of the buggered up screws and the horrid hex cap screws. It is currently getting a good polish and blue job and a new express sight installed. The stock which is in physically very good condition will get refinished, sent out for a nice checkering job and a large recoil pad installed to increase the LOP to help with my long arms. I am also looking for a vintage European scope that will fit in the 1 inch rings. The current Texan scope is rather beat up and the lenses are on the dingy side. My friends have asked me why I would spend so much on an old cut up military rifle when I could buy a new top end Remington or Winchester for similar money. The answer is always the same ... “You just wouldn’t understand!”

Anyway just thought it was funny that the first time I searched the site for ideas on how to execute my restoration, I would run into my very own rifle.
Thanks,
Mike

You might do well to measure your Texan scope's diameter. Every one I have seen has a 7/8" (22mm) diameter main tube, like the Lyman Alaskan. If this one does, I would forget about a vintage European scope and look for just such a Lyman Alaskan or Noske scope, both of which have elevation AND windage adjustments. European scopes of that period, such as the Zeiss Zielklein and Zielmar have only elevation and depend on the mount for windage. The same is true of the Zeiss Zielvier, a larger, 4X scope with a 26mm main tube, I believe.

Wow, unusual mount alright!
Is it a swinging/removable type so to be able to load the magazine more easily?
Will certainly be a talking point where ever you go.
Looking forward to seeing more on this one - especially the mounts!
Cheers

xausa,

You are correct about the diameter of the Texan it is 7/8. But the rings are 1 inch and the previous owner stuffed some paper into the rings as a shim.

You are also correct about the vintage euro scopes not having a windage adjustment. Will have to re-think that one... Maybe a nice vintage Weaver ....

Thanks again,
Mike

93x64mm,
Yes, essentially the mount is a tube with a spring and large cap screw to put tension on the rings. By pushing forward, you can swing the mount down and out of the way. I will have to take a look since I can’t remember the name of the manufacturer off hand, but I did a quick online search right after I purchased it and couldn't find anything about it. I would love to find another one for a Steyr M95 Sporter that I am working on.

Thanks,
Mike

Should you decide to go with a vintage US scope such as a Lyman Alaskan or a Noske, I believe I have some aluminum shims around here somewhere which would make the 1" rings useable.

The mount looks like a prototype of the Pachmayr Lo-Swing mount. See http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pachmayr-Lo-Swin...=item33a461d47e
