I have never been to Africa (but I want to Soon!) and I've been wondering, do most people use open sights to hunt DRG animals like Lions and Cape Buff? It seems to me that if you have the bad luck of placing a bad shot into the animal and it charges.. your sight aquisition would be much faster with iron sights instead of a scope. I just finished watching the Lion fights back video clip and it looked to me that the PH was the only one with out a scope and just about the only one who hit the animal when it counted.
So what's the deal? Scope or no scope? I'd really like to know! Thanks, Angel
Most clients don't get enough experience with open sighted rifles to shoot them really well so they use a scope with QD mounts and remove the scope for follow ups etc.
I like to see clients using an open sighted rifle but only if they can shoot it really well. If they can't then a scope & QD mounts are the best way to go.
