Great Indian Hunters?

We read about the great hunting exploits of people like Jim Corbett, I guess because he wrote his stories (and so well too) down in novel format. Baker's books are also of historical note.

But I am wondering if our esteemed members here can help. Were there any great Indian or sub-continent hunters (of native population origin) who wrote great hunting stories of
their exploits?

Of course there were great hunters. The great hunts of the Maharajahs of course can not be forgotten. Did anyone ever pen their experiences?

Please share this information if you have it and any tips on finding access to these accounts. Thanks.

Kenneth Anderson and Sher Jung come immediately to mind. There is also Billy Arjan Singh but I wouldn't say he was a great hunter.

P.S.: Some more names that I recall - R.P. Noronha, Col. Kesri Singh and R.S. Dharmakumarsinh.

John,
If you can get hold of it, 'Call of the Tiger' by Anderson Powell is an excellent book, he was probably the first guy who made use of the 'gadget' that some locals used to mimic Tigers calling.
Other good books are 'Tigers of the Raj' by Col.Burton. You will be interested to read his opinions on Corbett, then there is'Rifle and romance in the Indian jungle' by A.Glasfurd.And when you have finished reading these, then get hold of 'Home from the Hill', by Hilary Hook, he did his early days of shooting in India, and ended up as a PH in Kenya, in fact he was technical director to Elspeth Huxley's 'The flame trees of Thika'.
The best hunters and trackers in India are the Bhils and Ghonds....aboriginal tribesmen of Central India. Hilary Hook, in his book goes even further and reckons they are better that the African trackers.

Ajaikumar Reddy the author of "man eaters of central India"

Col Kesri Singh author of various books including "one man and a thousand tigers".

Chronicles of maharana Bhooopal Singh of Mewar chronicled in "shikari and shikar" by dhabhai Tulsinath Singh Tanwar


These are a few that come to ming right now.

In addition a few 'out of print' ones written by early britishers in India they make interesting reading on their accounts of hunting Lions in Punjab, Rhinos in present day UP (same state that has varanasi and taj mahal)
