My grandfather used to shoot and hunt a bit. Was a winner of the King's Shoot of the Stockwell Hunt Club three years or three years in a row (?). Won a fancy trophy for that honour.
My father has one of his shotguns, and my Uncle inherited the three other firearms. Anyway my Uncle decided he no longer wants to have a firearms licence, had sold off the farm decades ago and decided to sell the three firearms to me.
Nothing fancy, a Stevens 12 gauge shotgun with hammers. One hammer is broken off and needs to be found still. An unknown brand single barrel .410 shotgun of unusual design, very rusted. And a Mauser .22 rimfire with a magazine.
I remember getting excited by Joel Dorleac's fantastic customised Mauser .22 of his own, but my "new" rifle appears to be a different model.
Will see about posting some photos tomorrow. As I said nothing fancy at all, but valued by me the family history. Would be interested in more information about the Mauser .22 RF though.
Photo bomber Blitzen always gets in the action.
Fitted with a Leupold rimfire 2-7x scope and Leupold mounts on the integral dovetail.
Five shot magazine.

BTW it being the Queen's Birthday Holiday weekend, it is apt to mention the King's Shoot, which has held for maybe 80 years on the King's Birthday weekend in the past.
A tradition worth renewing I think for a Queen's Birthday Shoot.

Mine is not a Dorleac either but they certainly are interesting and great shooting rifles.

Good for you,, nothing quite like having a firearm with family history behind it..
My family was not much for hunting really..but being on the farm,needed to have them around. Have my grandfathers old single shot Winchester and my dad's old Remington as well..will be passed on to my son when the time comes..

It appears to be the original stock as it has the steel Mauser stamped butt plate and the serial number of the rifle is stamped inside. It is shaped like the early type B models with the plain forend. I have it in our hunting camp as it is about the same weight as most hunting rifles and is fun to use for off hand shooting and I can take some more photos when I get back out to camp.

I have never seen a Series B Mauser 22 with a PoW grip and reinforced side panels. I too would like to see more photos of this rifle. Nothing like this appears in Speed's "Smallbore" book.

The teasing photo is Phil's rifle. I haven't had the chance during daylight to take any photos yet. Will see if I can find out what the model is tonight though and post some 'bad' photos if necessary. I prefer to take my photos in good daylight not having a good studio setup.
Phil's rifle does look nice and he should feel free to post some photos if he wishes.

Appears to be a grouse/ptarmigan/pest/plinking rifle if it's in a hunting or fishing camp.

Inheritance John can be a wonderful thing especially when you have loved the deceased and knowing that the object given was 'Special' to that person in some way.
At least that is what I am hoping when my Son inherits my collection.

Recently I bought a Mauser 410-B with a a few original clips and in "the package" was a 10-shot clip stamped Mauser...life is good.

Have been meaning to take the promised photos. The rifle has been in my hands now for a few months. So far it has killed a red bellied black snake in my truck shed with bird shot. I was looking for the Lithgow or .410 then realised my Dad's firearms are back in his own safe again per legal requirements. So the Mauser was abused in this way, with shot, to kill a dangerous snake in the shed. More on that story later.
Took it out with me this week for a walk to change the irrigation taps in the vineyards. Saw a LOT of rabbits and shot off a lot of cartridges ... open sights are not going to cut it at the distances I now shoot at. Not like when I was fifteen and stalked to within 10 yards of a rabbit ... so last night drove to the city and acquired a new set of Leupold mounts and a Leupold rimfire 2-7x scope to fit the dovetails on the action. From Fisher Firearms in Adelaide who were very helpful and friendly as usual in finding the right mounts and scope.
Pictures will follow soon !!! I hope.
I think I will have Grandpa's rifle restored completely, and have his initials added to it, same as mine.

So far only one red bellied black snake and one rabbit plus three clays and a target for me. But no doubt many bunnies, hares and foxes over the decades.
Photo from the net. I shot the snake with shot in my truck shed, after having found the snake outside the shed trying to get in. It slithered away from me, and I decided it was too dangerous to leave it in the environs of the house and sheds so went to get a long handled shovel. Returned and looking for the snake, could not find it, but must have walked right past it in the low grass in front of the shed. It decided to make tracks and found a gap in the corner of a door and inside the shed it went. Went inside and using a torch quickly spotted it hidden well only a metre from the door right up against the shed wall with only a few centremetres visible behind some boxes, chains, and under a beam. Decided to get a .410 or a rifle and use shot. This was the only one quickly available in the front of the safe, so used it. Shot to the head plus a couple more for insurance finished it off.
Had a go with the rifle with open sights on rabbits but no luck. More spray and pray with the open sights at distance.
Decided to fit a scope and a Leupold Rimfire model in 2-7x seemed a nice light and smaller scope suitable for the Mauser .22 . Leupold mounts fit the dovetail and the rounded action top. Fisher Firearms in Adelaide gave good and friendly service for this.
This evening after sighting it in, took it for a walk and shot one bunny with it. Missed a couple of others. Need some practice I think. The trigger is OK but has a lot of creep and once taken up lets off with not too bad a squeeze.
Many more bunnies will be in its future I think.
