Mauser Model M 9.3x62 Coming up for Sale!
      #265837 - 02/06/15 07:10 PM

Hey guys,

Figured someone here may want one. This is coming up at auction by Amoskeag Auction Co, June 6, 2015, 9:00 AM ESTManchester, NH, USA and is a Live Auction.

Estimated Price: $2,500 - $4,000 (starting price $1500)
Description: serial #111994, 9.3x62mm, 23 1/2 round barrel with a very good plus bore which shows strong rifling but which has frosting in the grooves its entire length. The metal surfaces retain about 97% excellent quality later hot immersion blue. There are a few spots which show remnants of some light pitting and the edge of the bolt handle shows an impact mark from being dropped. The full-length classic style stock rates very good with much original varnish and overall minor dings and handling marks from the years. It features a left-side rounded cheekpiece, capped pistolgrip, fish lip semi-schnabel halfway down the length of the forearm and factory swivels. There is an antique solid rubber rifle pad attached, it fits the original curvature of the stock and may be original, the stock is certainly not cut and now provides a 14 3/4 length of pull. Additionally the rifle features double set triggers, Oberndorf-style butterknife bolt handle, hooded bead front sight, three leaf express rear (one standing, two folding), and has been fitted for dual claw bases. The bases and rings mount a Hensoldt Wetzlar Ziel Dialyt 5X telescopic sight with heavy German reticle and bright excellent optics. The exterior of the scope is now nearly an overall gray and brown patina with light oxidation and pinprick pitting but the interior is amazingly clear. There is some oil soaking in the stock to the rear of the tang and someone has fitted a magnum crossbolt at a later date. There is a minor crack or chip just ahead of the bottom metal front extension, it is tight, and there were minor chips and cracks on both sides of the magnum crossbolt left and right. A very good Model M overall in a fantastic big-game caliber that likely would provide many more years of use afield. (37183-1) {C&R}

This rifle belongs to me and I feel the need to correct some of the description given by Amoskeag. First of all, it is a 100% factory Mauser Type "G", which is a full stock rifle with a 24" barrel, not a Type M stutzen. It was built as a special order in 1932 with all matching numbers including the stock and has the upgraded Bohler Antinit barrel marked 9.3x62M (Magnum). Full stock Mauser Sporter's are rare these days as is the Hensoldt 5X scope. This is a rare collectable. If anyone needs additional info or detail photos let me know.

Out of interests sake - are you selling it in the US as there is a better market than Britain?

Ooh they call the 9.3x62 a Magnum, heh, i know some people who would flip if they heard that!
It's a beautiful rifle, that's for sure. I ahve no idea how to tell the various Mauser models apart (like M, G etc)

Ash: The location of "Essex" refers to a town in Massachusetts. Regarding the "Magnum" designation, there is no difference in the chamber or rifling between a "Normal" 9.3x62 and a "Magnum" marked one. It is a matter of proof pressure. In the late 20's, both RWS and DWM offered "High Velocity" loads for the 9.3x62 and the Magnum marked rifles were proofed for these higher pressures, hence the special order Bohler Antinit barrel.

Kari: The Type "G" is described on page 50 of Jon Speed's "Archive" book. Basically it is any Mauser Sporter with a 600mm barrel length with a full length stock to the end of the barrel. ( If it is a Kurz action, the barrel length would be 550mm ) The stock configuration can be a Type S style or a Type M style. The butterknife bolt handle was available as an option on all Mauser sporters, so it does not just identify a Type M. There are a number of Type G's shown in the "Archive" book. Very few were made.

Thanks Don, I havenīt yet bought the book you mentioned. Just occasionally borrowed it from my pal. Sooner or later I should buy it.
