Fraser Side Lever Action
      #265426 - 23/05/15 12:45 PM

Hello Gentlemen

I am still considering options for a nice single shot rifle, and one of the actions I have under consideration is Steve Earle's very fine Fraser action.

The rifle I have built will be a hunting rifle, and will hunt with me in the mountains, so it will face both a lot of wet, dirt and ice etc. Basically our NZ mountains are a hostile environment, and a rifle must be very robust in a mechanical sense. For example I once hunted quite a bit with a Valmet 412, and while it was highly accurate, the lockwork did not like moisture.

So with this in mind, how do you think the Fraser would fare ?? Will it give me issues with extraction if the chamber is not perfectly clean. Will it fail to function if the dirt of the bush gets into its places where it can't be cleaned out without a full stripdown.

All opinions welcome, factual experience would be even better. Thanks
