96 Mauser sporters/custom pics

The great Mauser 98 is far and away the most popular action for building sporting rifles. The 96 Mauser seems to get little attention despite being a very fine action. The small ring and lighter weight would make a trim little rifle. If anyone has a nice sporter or custom with a 96 Mauser action please show off some pictures.

I see these rifles you create and I'm always stunned by their style and execution.
Thank you for sharing with us mere mortals.

KW, take a look at some of the Daniel Fraser takedowns on '96 actions.

Here's two photos of my last two remaining rifles built on 96 actions, both having Westley-Richards pattern bagged grips and Rigby pattern short fore-ends. They are noticeably more svelte and quicker to the draw than my similar rifles built on 98 actions, although barely noticeably slower than a couple of my Lee Speeds.

The first is in .256 Gibbs Magnum Rimless, with an EAW side-mount & Swarovski Habicht Nova A 3-9x36 (#4A reticule) its spare scope is a Kahles Helia 2.2-9x42 (#4 reticule) mounted in a spare EAW slide-top ready to go; the second is in .400/360 2 1/4" Rimless N.E. also with an EAW side-mount and Kahles Helia S2S 2.5x20 (#1 reticule); its spare scope is a Kahles Helia 15S2 1.5-4.5x20 (#16 reticule) mounted in a spare EAW slide-top ready to go, with back-up fixed single leaf rear and flip-up night bead front sights by Recknagel. Both are wearing their Made in Winnipeg by Levy's canvas straps.

I apologize for the poor quality of the photos. At the time, my old tripod was buggered & my new Manfrotto had not yet been delivered, so it was hand-steadying for me.

They pale in comparison to the beautiful creations of Dorleac. The photos of their 275 Rigby got me drooling & scheming, thinking about what I can let go to finance one of those. Magnificent!

Dorleac and Old rifle nut, you have some stunning rifles there. They are quality rifles built to last, unlike some of the latest budget bargains that are on the market.

Daniel Fraser rifles are exquisite. However, I have never seen any rifles built on M95/M96 actions that are as graceful as those built on M98 actions - until now. Dorleac's creations are in a class of their own. As far as I can tell they are flawless.

While not exactly a M96, the Husqvarna HVA action is an upgraded one and this one was built in the early Mauser/Rigby style by Steve Berg. He started with his old 30-06 after the original stock had been broken in an aircraft accident.

Interesting thread. I have a ex-mil M96 in 6.5x55, and at the moment it sits in a crappy utilitarian plastic stock. Superbly accurate. A rifle available as a loaner rifle for visitors as needed. Good killer of feral pigs, goats, and most deer.
