Photos of Cooper Model 58 Big Game Rifle

I visited with Glen at Cooper Arms yesterday..told him of what I read of the new model 58 Dangerous Game Rifle..he stated the safety is a result of the Timney triggers they are using -modes are fire, safe and lock..

He stated the bolt is similar to a SAKO extractor but it is a true controlled round feed rifle. Having said that, it does NOT require the cartridge to be picked up off the clip, in a hurry you can just drop one in the barrel, close the bolt and fire..

Do you mean Cooper Model 58? It doesn't look Kimberish. Not trying to bust you down. I am just asking.

I see a little SAKO 85 here. Unlike the SAKO, which has its ejector at the 6 o'clock position, Cooper wisely placed their ejector at the two o'clock position. This is a real fault of the SAKO 75 and 85 series. A low mounted scope can lead to empties falling back into the action and buggering things up. I would like to see what Cooper does for recoil lugs. Is there a recoil lug on the barrel to spread things out? Is there a model 70 or 700 type lug in front of the receiver? Or do they do that little button nonsense like SAKO did on the 85? Now you got me thinking Ripp.

I will forward your questions to Glen at Cooper and find out..
will advise when I get a response..

Incidently if anyone is wondering, the photo of the 3 rifles, the one on the far left is chambered in 416 Rigby..it may be finding a new home..

If your wife ever got to thinking that the numbers 416(she's a beauty or I love her) were some sort of code for another woman, like 420 is for the stoners, you would be in deep trouble.

Per your request..this was the response from Glenn in marketing at Cooper.

"The M58 uses one washer style recoil lug between the action & barrel that is .375” thick."

All three appear to have different forends. The Lott looks to have a schnabel forend. No story on that orphaned Rigby yet Ripp?

Found out the alleged "orphan" was inaccurate..she was spoken for..

BUT, traveling through that neck of the woods next month. Plan to stop in and take a look.

Got some prices this morning..seems the the one on the far right would be in the $3000 US range..far left depending on options is anywhere from $4400 on up..

Cooper really does a fine Job, I live about 15 miles from there plant, have visited them numerous times its always a stop when I have friends from out of state. One of the ladies that does their checkering is a friend of mine, sure wish I had her talent.
