.400 H&H in a dbl?
      #2638 - 06/05/03 02:41 AM

I wish Blaser would make their new S-2 Safari in the good old realible .450/400 3"NE., or the interesting new .400 H&H. There is room for a good .411 bore, it is almost all-round, and I reckon it will be great on moose and wildboar too.
Any comments, reflections,.. ?
Robie

ROBIE , The 450/400NE 3" is one of the most versatile chamberings one can chamber a double rifle for! Being a Flanged answer to the 416 rigby, but with lower chamber pressure, it works great in a double! However the 400 H&H is simply the 450/400NE3" for use in a bolt rifle, and is not well suited to double rifle use, being a rimless, belted round!

I have several Mauser actions, and one of them is slated for a .411 barrel, and a chambering reamer for the 400 H&H, as we speak.

Robbie, I talked with the H&H factory folks at last SCI convention. They are having real chalanges trying to regulate double rifles with their new 400 ammo. Something unusual about this load. Wes.

I thought the .400 H&H Magnum was specifically designed for bolt actions - to complement the existing .450/400 H&H doubles?

Robbie

get a .500/.416 if you want a new double in a versatile calibre. The "plastic fantastic" I believe even chambers that calibre.

NitroX,
What is the "plastic fantastic"? Is this simular to the "Lethal Tupperware" ? - (known otherwise as a Glock pistol). Best Regards, Wes.

I was referring to the Blaser. I have not handled one so it isn't first hand but understand it has some plastic parts and a rubber barrel spacer underneath the barrels
