Hope it works out for you. If you see Gentle Ben, don't shoot him, except maybe for a 3 years worth of dog food - he'd be about 55 years old, now. LOL

Oh Daryl I loved Gentle Ben when I was a kid, never missed a show, the cute kid in that turns up now again as a ugly bald bad guy in movies !

Good luck with the permits, if nothing else it shows the old Black Bear is doing well in the US & FL !

Incredibly well here in BC. Seems lots of guys have stopped eating them now and with that, literally a population explosion in some areas, especially areas that were bow only zones - like the local seed orchard where the stuck-ups used to complain about the local archery club shooting their poor bears. Now, the overpopulated bears are chasing the anti-s around the grounds - what fun!

This is the season and there are lots of bears.

i grew up on grizzly adams . the passed year or so people in the out lying suburbs of orlando have been feeding and leaving garbage for the fuzzies which in turn found out that fido tastes like chicken. so they can't have any of that. the fish and game did some high profile catch and kill. which makes hunting look a lot more sporting plus the press won't be looking over the game commission's shoulder which plays into our hands.i bear hunt in viginia but this sure is closer.

I watched grizzky adams too as a kid and still remember him telling some woman mountain lion are not dangerous if you don't go into their territory, while they stood 20 yards away from a mountain lion and her cubs ... so I am armed with knowledge with how to survive in the North American forests and mountain from Grizzly Adams.

I want to hunt bear one day. One day perhaps a combined moose and brown bear trip and another time a combined black bear and deer trip. Would be cool if possible and seasons etc allow.

Well they passed the hunt amid all the crying 300 permits for October.

I hunt brown bear and moose every year. Same hunting season, same area. Have never got both the same year but have taken either bear or moose almost every year.

Casper- anyone up there eat the coastal browns? Years ago when I lived in Smithers, my wife cooked a grizzly roast (Spatsizi Park bear) for the Bulkley Valley Rod and Gun club game banquet. It was the one of the best meats on the table.

Lots of the local hunters eat them if they haven't been on fish yet, i.e. spring bears. They're pretty bad after eating the salmon. I like the taste but they need to be cooked slow or they get tough.

The griz. Tracy cooked was mountain grizzly, done in a slow oven for about 4 or 5 hours, basting often. It had bacon fat, cloves and garlic cloves shoved into the outside. It was really quite special when we sampled it, but my dog turned his head away, wouldn't even sniff it. I found that interesting. It smelled no different than a good beef roast when cooking.

My dad cooked a swamp hog when I was a kid stunk so bad it ran us out of the house. I'm just south of the Ocala national forest going to stop by the ranger station and see what and where.
