Rotary Underlever Hammerguns with a Germanic Twist
      #263646 - 16/04/15 11:12 AM

Manfred Wutti has updated his website with many more pictures than he had on it before. Maybe our Austrian members can say something about his work.

Good hunting!

I like that hammer gun, but not the claw mounts on it - WAYYY out of place on a nostalgically designed rifle.

Yes, not to mention a scope with any type of mounting on this rifle. Come to think of it, how do you (comfortably) cock the LH barrel with a scope mounted?

Daryl,

you are right, the correct way to go would be a "Wiener Schnäpper-Montage".
But this is really outdated and I would not really trust it with modern high-power cartridges.

The Suhl claw mount that is used here stems practically from the same time, early 1900s or so, and I think it is quite appropriate.

mauserand9mm,

right too, in principle.
But whoever can afford and appreciate such rifle will have 50+ eyes and probably never have used open sights.
So if these rifles shall go hunting, there is no way around the scope.

But have you seen all the efforts to make a modern scope look "oldfashioned" - brass ring around the objective, wooden lens cover, even a half-octagon profile in the objective tube to match the octagon barrel - wonder how Mr. Wutti did this.

The scopes I see appear to have 42 mm objectives, so are very moderate for current "Germanics", not the 56 mm "stovepipe" that are quite the rule nowadays.

BTW still wondering if a KuK Austrian would like to be called Germanic.....

Yeah, sure, they speak Swahili in Austria, don't they?

I could look a "art" like that all day long & then some.
Only problem is I could never afford it without selling both kidneys!
Yes they may not be everyone cup of tea, but the workmanship & detail is what I really do admire in what I call "art". True it may not a H&H or a Rigby if you want a name, & doesn't have over the top gold & high relief engraving on virtually every conceivable surface - but these are hunters!
Herr Wutti (Hope I get that right for our German mates) certainly fills the bill in both cases, they look terrific & can shoot to - old mate got himself a chamois!
WOnder what calibres they come in - couldn't find any?
Keep up the good work mehulkamdar, great find!
Cheers
