30 Gibbs

I found a 1950's steyr GK rifle chambered for .30 Gibbs, it's a wildcat 30-06. Was this a round offered by Steyr or do you think this rifle was modified? It has a Lyman scope and a Echo side mount and the seller is asking $1000.00 US. Is it a deal?

The likelihood of the .30 Gibbs being chambered by Steyr is extremely remote. If you do decide to purchase the rifle check the feeding with the Gibbs cartridges. Purchased a Steyr Model 72 in .30-06 many years ago. Seller did not disclose that the rifle had been re-chambered to .30-06 Ackley Improved and the rifle was still marked as a .30-06 - it would not feed improved cartridges from the magazine. Don't know about the price - depends on how much you want it.
