Any ideas?
      #261972 - 09/03/15 07:09 PM

Hi All,
I got this old 8x57 at a recent auction because something about it really appealed to me, mainly the sights which seemed to have a very grace full style. It is obviously a converted military rifle - according to the marks proofed in 1925. Any ideas as to who may have done it? I know this is a long shot but I thought someone might recognise the sights etc.
I have attached some pictures of markings also, if they will help?

Nice old rifle, I'm particularly taken by the stock, appears to be a reworked military

as is the rest of the rifle. By whom, no idea, looks good though - my kind of rifle. --- John

Very similar to my 275 Rigby in stock design and sights . This rifle design has fantastic handling capabilities and being a Mauser will be reliable . Great rifle

The sights would have made me purchase it as well.

I like it too.

I'd simply clean up the stock a bit, find some 225gr. Speers, load it with N205 or IMR4350 to about 2,400fps and use it for moose and elk - get it sighted in for those bullets (maybe try some 185's as well) and hunt.

I'm sorry can't help with any 'other' info.

You know I much prefer a rifle like that (with good bore of course), it looks like it could tell a few stories. I find that a rifle that has been used but looked after "feels" so much better. Probably psychological
