Another useless wasteful stunt by Kenya

The Kenya President will shortly torch 15 tons of ivory to send a message that ivory belongs to elephants on this World Wildlife Day.

Perhaps a more constructive strategy would be reintroduce sporting hunting safaris and use some of the fees to fund anti-poaching efforts. Rather than the incredible waste of this bonfire, and a useless message which the criminals behind the commercial poaching do not care a stuff about.

Idiotic mindless stunt ,achieves absolutely nothing, apart from wasting ivory which could have been legally auctioned off and money used for something constructive ,if they think this will have any impact on poachers and poaching, they are living in Disney Land

Better yet go to China and the Philippines and torch a ton of religious relics carved from placed ivory, after beating their owners bloody with them.

That and then flood the Ivory market with the stocks they have.

The present President of Kenya is Uhuru Kenyatta, son of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and his last wife Ngina (Mama Ngina), who now lives the life of a wealthy widow, thanks to fortunate investments. At the time I hunted Kenya in the 70's, she was reputed to have a hand in every illegal enterprise in the country, including the ivory trade, and the ban, first on elephant hunting and then on hunting in general, was widely believed to be for the purpose of promoting the illegal ivory trade. Destroying a collection of tusks such as the one pictured can only have the effect of driving up the price of ivory, ultimately benefiting the illegal trade.

A very effective advert for just how ineffective Kenya's efforts have been to stop the poaching - intercepting ivory after the animal is dead is somewhat like closing the gate after the horse has bolted...
