A mainstay for many of us as a target species when learning the hunting game..they still are of course at the appropriate time.

I was after bigger game and let both of these foxes walk.

Hi Gryphon,

As usual, fantastic photos... They may not be 'Big Game' but they will always give you a run for your money and make walking the paddocks interesting.

Cheers Mate,

Jeff

While they may not be that big they are very good fun to stalk with a 22LR as you have to get within thirty meters to kill them cleanly. Especially good fun in hilly semi-open terrain. I did exactly that at Christmas time at a mates property on Lake Eildon where I was able to take seven foxes and one feral cat over a period of about one week. I used a BRNO model 2, Winchester Power Point 42 grain ammo, Steiner 8 x 30 Hunting Binoculars and an adjustable Mono-Pod. Very exciting.

It must be colder where you are than here. I expect the local foxes are hairless and bareskinned here. After what was two weeks of very hot weather at the end of February. The earliest vintage ever is my guess here. Picked last night and many of the berries were shrivilled and raisoning. Don't know how ripe they went, but 18 to 20 baume is not impossible this year. How about a 18 to 20 percent alcohol wine !!!! They are going to need some blending material I think or lots of washing down .... Got some vineyards still to pick, from the second growth vineyards after the frost. Still not ripe.

Great fox photos, always hard to sneak up to reynard, usually the photos come from him wandering by, not the other way round.

Exactly. More pics, more posts, more topics = more members, which = more pics, more posts, more topics = repeat..

Good pics but also good comments and discussions are important for a forums health. Photos do generate good discussions especially if accompanied by interesting comments and/or questions.

JG's photos are much appreciated.

Very nice pics. Our foxes have faced considerable pressure from the influx of our hybrid coyote/wolf which will not tolerate them. We used to be able to make good money on fox hides before the collapse of the fur trade. Though there has been some comeback. For what it's worth, we just came off -30 degree temps here. That would be in Fahrenheit. Northern New England's climate can mimic Scandinavia's. Which explains our high rate of alcoholism and suicide as well. Coyote hunting is a good cure for cabin fever.

Our fur trade was good too until the farkin greens destroyed it (and our native animals as 'collateral damage')

Dingos wont tolerate the foxes here either..and believe it or not the sambar chase them out of the immediate area as well....not that it keeps them right away of course.
