Wise choice for a first double. I've owned several Evans doubles that were all Webley built doubles. I believe they are some of the best boxlock double rifles ever built. The dumbest move I ever made was passing on a never fired Evans 450/400 that Champlins had back in 2005 iirc.

If you call William Evans they will give you all the build information on your rifle.

Enjoy!

yes i did email them it was confirmed built in 1914 no delivery info, was bombed in WW2 so all was lost.. very nice gun handles well have not got to shoot it yet, dies and reloading coming my way, I wonder if i should shoot it with factory ammo to see if it groups with that load. I assume Kynoch loads 60 cordite with 400 grain bullet? I have 2 loads in hand but not sure what to try. IMR 4831 or the RL-15 load.

Without pictures it didn't happen.

ReLoder 15 only.

The go-to seems to be a 400gr jacket/lead core bullet with 71.5grs RL15

First thing to do is slug the bores as there is a lot of variance in the 450/400s. My Evans 450/400 3 1/4 measured .408 but you'll want to check for sure. Get Graeme Wright's 3rd Edition and read up if you haven't loaded for British doubles before. I would try both 4831 and R-15 and let the gun tell me what it prefers.

pretty sure it is .408 and that was what was told to me. My question though isn't the RL-15 more like the Kynoch .408 round 400 grain bullet around 2100 fps? the load I have in hand for this gun is 78gr 4831 woodleigh .408 400 grain and federal 215 crimped to the cannalur on Rigby Brass?

The other is 68 grain RL-15 1 gram poly

yes i do have Grame Wrights book and it is alot information.

Oh and were in the heck can you find federal 215 primers. I have some CCI250 will they work?

Federal is still making them. Hoarders have soaked up the market, I assume, for their big WTBY, Remington and perhaps Lapua rounds.

Contrary to popular belief, 250's will work. I use them in my double rifle loads. I can't tell the difference between 215's or 250's.

Yes I see "A square" uses them in their loads I have some 215 coming but will keep them in mind if they get hard to find.

Ok I believe this has been discussed but what went into each of the spaces in the case? Also what is Rangoon oil and Nitro fluid.
