Scope covers poll.
      #25966 - 09/02/05 10:10 PM

I noticed that a couple of you guys mentioned on a recent africa forum post that you didn't like pop-up scope covers.
So lets have a little poll of what people prefer, and feel free to add a post as to why you prefer what you do!

Scope Covers
You may choose only one
I like "Butler Creek" type scope covers.
I use the regular covers that came with the scope.
I like "Bikini" type scope covers.
I think all types of scope covers get in the way, and prefer to use nothing. Rain or shine.
I'm Pondoros long lost son, and make my own scope covers out of elephant scrotum, and leopard gut!

I just voted in the poll, and would like to add that I also use the Butler Creek scope covers on my binoculars as well. They're cheep insurance to protect the objective lenses from dust and scratches while you're making a belly crawl stalk. The objective lens covers come with two little tabs on them, and I just snip off the tab that would be on the inside area of the objective lens when they are in place. Also, a little liquid detergent helps slide them over the lens barrel, especially if your binos are rubber armored.

I only use the scope covers on the objective lens of my rifle scope too.

I don't like covers on my scopes. They get in the way just when you need to use the scope.

Don't you love those scope covers with plastic see through bits. They spend oodles of dollars on expensive lens then say use the cover with plastic if you need too.

I have lost or never had a cover for most of my scopes.

I hate scope covers, they are always in the way and noisy.
If I got to leopard crawl I rest the rifle on the inside of my elbows and if I must remove dust I use a lens pen. I clean my lenses with the lens pen after every hunting session and never had a problem. I do not like to many gadgets while I'm hunting, try to keep it simple.

I leave the bikini covers on until we get out of the vehicle. They keep the dust kicked up by the tires off the lenses.

Have used Butler Creeks for ages, they are great. I also use them on my Binos. Glue a small square of sorbothane next to the hinge and they are virtually silent. Also ditch the covers with that stupid little red lever, they're junk, buy the corresponding size objective cover.

With the almost constant rain on the scottish hills, they protect the lens from "Blotting out" right up until you are ready to take the shot. Nothing worse than farting about trying to wipe the lens so you can see the target.
