Can't argue with that, however there might be other opinions held.

Best for what? Looks/beauty, functionality, reliablity, stopping power?????

Best looking revolver - 1) Colt SAA with 4 3/4" barrel. 2) S&W Mod 29

Best looking semi auto - 1) Luger Navy with 6" barrel. 2) Colt M1911 A1

LOTS of room for heated discussion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HA! = here's one:

M29 4" all the way. - I do love mine. I've had a few autos and SA's - I just prefer the DA wheelgun(s), thanks just the same.

5 out of 6 on the ram sil. at 300 meters, almost every time when in 'shooting trim'. Elmer was a terrific inspiration - still is.

He told me on the phone to get either a S&W M58, or a 4" 29 as a carry gun while I was a policeman. I bought the M29 and never looked back. That was 40 years ago and I still have one today, mind you, it's my third & I don' shoot it quite as well as I did, way back then - but still was smacking rams in the 90's.

NO need for HEATED debate--merely one person's perspective..

Have used/owned many shown and think they are good, but certainly there are others out there that are just as good or better.. IMHO..

Don't think I saw the Colt Python on there..which is one of my personal favorites for a revolver..

I shot a Python many years ago, and it was fine - a worked-on and silky DA, but preferred my M29.
Yes- the 4 1/4" is what I should have done.

I had just shortened a new 6" to 4" and was getting back into the .44 saddle again, when the Libtard Government declared it a Saturday Night Special and made it a Prohibited Handgun. Oh well, it doesn't limit what I can use it for as like me, it's Grandfathered. LOL

ANY handgun with 4" or shorter barrel is now a Prohibited handgun. This length does not include the chamber in a wheelgun, but does in an auto - go figure. If one of those huge .45/70 revolvers had a 4" Bl. it would be a prohibited handgun.
At 4 1/4", it would simply be a restricted handgun.
When the lawmakers are idiots, you get idiot laws.
Iona Campanolo, then a Liberal Cabinet Minister declared that M1 Carbines and AR's had to be restricted because you could hide one up your sleeve. This was on a radio talk show - I had phoned in & asked why those had been restricted - 1978.I told her she was an idiot who didn't have any idea what she was talking about, and asked what other idiot told her to say that. The radio shut down the show when she started screaming at me. LOL. It happened every week on Wednesday at 10AM- mine was the first call, 2 other gun club members were next and then the show would be shut down when "she lost it" - sometimes only my call, sometimes the good Dr. or Geologist got to grill her. HA! Those were the days!

The Hi Standard would have to be the best 22 auto I know of. Certainly the ones I have used know of have proven more reliable than the Woodsman and tha S&W.

I have soft spots for the Ruger Red/Black Hawks.

I'd dump the CZ and the Sig from my list and add a Colt Python and Smith & Wesson 27.

I'm curious as to what the parameters are. I don't have any issue with the handguns picked. If it's influence then I would say yes the models picked led to other designs and models.

The Luger P08 was pretty much a dead end with it's toggle action and the Mauser C96 Broomhandle never went anywhere either. Both are neat pistols, but if they were influential it was in a negative way. Other designers looked at them and went in other directions.

I agree, where is Manurhin MR73 and Korth revolvers? Mauser C 96 broomhandle? Radom VIS 35 or HK P7 series of pistols...just to mention a few.
