Vintage BSA Sporter Pic
      #259088 - 16/01/15 06:42 PM

I have a few BSA Sporters or later Lee Speeds type rifles, bought one from down South & have been told it was used to take this stag in the pic a 18 pointer from the Haupiri !

Kinda Cool I thought ?

That's cool.

This is a good one as well, from Anderson Wheeler:

Good pictures blokes. When it comes to light hunting/stalking rifles it realy is hard to beat a good Lee Speed/ 303Sporter

Well, it doesn't top the fact that you own the actual rifle used in the pictures , but I can always dream that my own BSA Lee Speed have been on similar adventures in its lifetime.

Notice how in these wonderful old pictures there isn't the emphasis on the rifle that is evident in todays pics. The animal is the trophy and the rifle seems very much secondary as there is no effort to show it in other than peripheral exposure.

Sarg. With your rifle the front sling eye seems a great deal further back on the forestock than is usual. Is there any documented reason for this verses the usual barrel mounted eye.

That's the normal placing on these BSA models on the early model there is a mounting block sweated on the barrel & a screw through the fore end is fitted in that spot, it may help accuracy but I'm not sure, on the military rifles there is a barrel band some where near there to ?
