Little Woman's 2014 Antelope
      #255495 - 21/10/14 12:21 AM

The little woman drew a antelope doe tag for an area about 90 miles north of our home...this is the 3rd year in a row she has drawn the tag..

Shooting a Tikka in 22-250 with a Leupold 4.5-14 VX-3 shooting Nosler 50gr BT at 3800fps...she shot this one at 316--

Prior to that using the same rifle/ammo combo she has taken antelope at 223, 343, 374, and 501 yards..all first shot hit/kills...makes me think I had better keep her happy..

As well as that guy shoots it has me believing you really dont need to spend more than $650. and have a pretty good shooting rifle..

Ironically she shot this one within 150 yards of where I shot mine with my bow about a month ago..

Got to keep your head down - think I'm too old to hunt in that landscape now - too hard on the back and knees.

Good stuff and also a nice skin and some meat. How does antelope compare to deer for meat?

Antelope is very good meat. Most people I've ran into that don't like it have never eaten it when it was harvested by someone that truly cares well for the meat in very warm weather. where I have shot mine, we skin them out put them in garbage sacks and throw them in a mountain stream for a couple hours to cool. Build a fire, have some lunch and relax. Good times

Agree with other comment --if prepared properly I like it more than deer..if not, can be bad as any other meat..

Key is getting it cooled and also not to chase them before being shot..if you can sneak on them and put the hammer to them without knowing you are in the area and get the meat taken care of right away..you are golden...then you are in for a few months of very GOOD meat...
