Huge tusker taken in Zimbabwe
      #254843 - 08/10/14 09:36 PM

Pinched this as it is huge news.

KPete - Official weights have yet to be established, but estimates are approximately 160 and 144. On safari with Buzz Charlton in Dande North out of the CMS Mukanga camp.

I have sent KPete an email, he is a member here as well. I hope he doesn't mind me sharing the photo on NE. What a great tusker, Congratulations!

Impressive tusks, but peculiar. There seems to be almost as much tusk inside the head as outside, especially when compared with this 94 pound tusk I took in Kenya, 1971:

This is how it looked before extraction:

Excellent xausa. And your point is very valid. Have just been discussing that with someone else.

Also watch this turn into a media harassment frenzy for the guy.

This one doesn't just break 100 on both sides, from the estimates at the moment, it averages 150 lbs a side.

I think there have been two or three 100+ pounders in recent years but nothing like this.

Yes..I remember one or two that were taken in Zim with the PH Nixon--who was also my PH in 2005 while hunting buffalo over there..he is a black PH and had really good relations with the locals and as such got in on some great areas for his clients..

I really can't remember if I have seen anything this big in the past 20 years or more for that matter..incredible..

One was taken just over the border of Mozambique in Tanzania by a black local guy. 100 +. I forget the circumstances.

Thies de Vries may have PHed for another.

Plus someone else.

Ok it has been confirmed by Buzz that this is a joke and the photo has been manipulated.

Ha ha, funny of KPete.

They are so impressively massive! That's the weight.

Sorry Daryl. My connection froze before you posted.

Lots of people, myself included were taken in.

First spotted by Martin Pieters on the SOGA Group as a joke.

Buzz posted "elsewhere":

It is infact a 10 and 8 lbs cow shot as a ration. Just goes to show what one can achieve with trick photography! Basically the tusks are pegged in the sand with Kim 20 meters behind them with his hands in the air at the right angle that it looks like he is holding them and Justin takes the pic from a low angle right infront of the tusks!

When I saw these last night I noticed the same as Xausa that the amount in the head was the same as the amount outside of it. Well done though.

The picture angle made me suspicious, in addition to so much of the tusks being inside the head, but I have to admit that it is a good prank!

Yes - sucked in - badly. I have had hunters ask for this with moose when I guided and I refused, but they do or have take pictures of themselves that are spoofs. I prefer the real McCoys myself.

In looking at that first photo again, it is obvious the elephant would have to have been a veritable GIANT - at least 20feet tall and a head on him like a Caddy SUV!

Erik quitting hibernating, that's the best news, the tusker is secondary.

I am pretty surprised that such a behemoth could have survived undetected. I wish there isn't any foul play, we so much need optimism

Had me going. Was wondering how large the Ele would have to be with so much tusk in the head.
