Cruelty to feral animals is a crime

(3rd September 2014 8:19 AM)

ANIMAL CRUELTY: The law protects feral animals too.

AFTER receiving several disturbing reports of cruelty to feral pigs, Biosecurity Queensland this week reminded people that cruelty to any animal, including feral and pest animals, would not be tolerated and strong penalties applied.

Biosecurity Queensland acting director of animal biosecurity and welfare Ian Rodger said all animals had legislated protection from cruel treatment in Queensland.

"Those hunting feral animals must abide by the law and treat animals appropriately," Mr Rodger said.

"Anyone caught deliberately mistreating animals will be investigated and could face prosecution through the courts, hefty fines and possible jail time.

"The Queensland Government recently enacted a new indictable offence of serious animal cruelty which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison, and it will target people who intentionally inflict severe pain and suffering upon an animal.

"The deliberate serious mistreatment of animals is unacceptable, so it is right that those who torture animals will face tougher penalties."

Late last year the Queensland Government also increased the maximum penalty for animal cruelty from two years in prison or a $110,000 fine to three years in prison or a $220,000 fine.

Property owners looking to control feral and pest animals on their land can refresh their knowledge of the best control methods online at biosecurity.qld.gov.au.

Biosecurity Queensland encourages people to report suspected animal welfare situations as soon as possible.

Delays in reporting an incident can make it difficult to investigate.

Yet the same gov't body thinks the poison 1080 is acceptable.

Double standards for their propaganda.

its true and I hate it, remember this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQRuOj96CRs

and the "hunting in general is cruelty" is a common catchphrase by the anti's, the brainless and the intelligent.
yes, intelligent because not every anti is stupid so dont make the biggest mistake of all and underestimate your enemy. I dont call anyone a hunter who act cruel against an animal and there is no difference between a pest or a panda. when you kill you have to kill quick and clean as possible. we know its not target shooting but if you in doubt dont shoot.
