I just saw this rifle in Internet, it will be for sale in swedish auction in later fall. I haven´t ever heard this caliber before but .404 Jeffery necked up to .458 bullet sounds interesting.

Might be a 1923 Remington commercially sporterized M1917 Enfield action (Model 30?, weren't they?), but the round itself was not developed until someone at Guns and Ammo designed & named it, I think. I remember reading the G&A magazine it was written up in - perhaps late 1960's or into the 1970's, seems to me. That timing is just a guess.
Looks like a well made, custom rifle - if that 2000 to 3000 SEK is valued at around 1,000 to 1,500 CDN dollars, I'd say it was OK - if you want it. If the rifle is a grade above that, then perhaps it is worth more to someone who wants it.
Edited- corrected the model to 30 - 60 was a Cooey .22 - I have 2 - HA~!

I saw the same rifle and was wondering about it myself. I think this is built on a Remington Model 30 action with the bolt altered to remove the 'dogleg'.
I can't find much on the cartridge except that ballistics are apparently about midway between the 458 Win and 460 Weatherby, about the same as the 458 Lott.
Looks like a well made, well balanced rifle, not unattractive at all.

Daryl, 2000 SEK is approximately 318 CDN Dollars 
IMO this caliber is so oddball in scandinavia, even in europe that someone could get this rifle in very cheap price.

Below is a link to an article covering the 460 G&A cartridge amongst others. I do remember reading about this cartridge years ago. The concept was from Tom Siatos one of the writers in the G&A magazine.
Would be quite an effective cartridge but based on the 404 Jeffery case would not be as easy or cheap to feed as the 458 Lott which the 460G&A basically mirrors in size and performance. Looks to be a nice rifle, the customised P14 action is a good one, get rid of the white line spacer ventilated pad and it would be an interesting addition to the dangerous game rifle arsenal.

Spot on about Tom Siatos - remember now more clearly. I'd think it would produce in the 2,300 to 2,350 fps range with 500's.
I achieved 2,200fps in my little 2.1" .458 Alaskan using .348 brass.
If it fed well, it'd be a great stopping, magazine rifle.
The white line spacer is rather nasty - glad there isn't one on the grip as well, but surprised there isn't. An easy fix on the butt to a solid pad.
Nice piece of walnut, too.

In my eyes this ugly pad seems to be added later, just for the owners personal recoil fear or longer lenght of pull. Pachmayr`s Old english Decelerator fix that visual problem very easily.

This was Remington's last attempt to capitalize on the machinery left over from manufacturing the P-14/M1917 Enfield in World War I. It is the most refined version, with cock on opening and a straight bolt handle.

I like those old Rem actions. I think the make a better custom rifle than the Win M70.
Just my taste.

Remington Mohawks are from the 1960's and based on the 722/700 series. In other words - on post WWII actions.

Jack Lott had a hand with all of this, he used the G&A type rounds (using .404Jeffery basic brass) to clean up existing chambers, giving a good 200-300fps advantage over conventional rounds of similar calibre. Similar to the Howell rounds I believe!
The 460 G&A (Tom Santos's idea) was a different kettle of fish as it use a full length blown out & necked up.404 cas to get a case full of powder & pushing a 500gn pill at the magic 2350fps like the 416 Rigby round, but in a much more efficient size & not getting pressures too high in the process.
Jack's loads were 90gn IMR4064 with Federal 215 primers using Hornady 500gn softs in BELL brass for right on 2350fps in a 24" barrel, for solids he reduced the load by 2gns.
The smaller 450G&A was to clean up the .458WM chamber & beat it by 200fps using 78gn IMR 4895 for 2160fps or 80gn IMR 4320 with 22" barrels. Refer Page 77 in Jack Lott's Big game G&A action series magazine in 1983.
Jack's own idea (.458 Lott was a lengthened .458 WM chamber which is capable of firing both rounds in a pinch) really needs a long action, but in the case of the .450G&A it only needs a standard length action.
In reality all these rounds are going to be hard hitters & really its down to personal choice.
The non belted cases like these should have been picked up, but it is a limited market & arms makers prefer sales!
Would be a great pick up at the price quoted, but a definite handloader proposition & if taking to Africa would require appropriately marked brass!
Shame it is a really good round!
