Early Morning Boar
      #252106 - 14/08/14 11:04 AM

A recent bush trip to get buffalo for the chiller turned into a pretty good pig hunt as it turned out. Plenty of meat was acquired, and a number of good boars were accounted for as well. This one was taken under slightly unusual circumstances:

Tossed the details up on the web here for those interested.

More hog-photos to follow......

You certainly have the easy ones..... of course it would have been more stylish if you had flattened him with the coffee in hand!

That might have been titled "The Pecker Pig".......

Here's a couple more taken the day before. Nothing quite like bagging a "brace" of big boars with a quick "right-and-left" from the nitro double, the second shot taken as fast as I could recover from the recoil.

The pair were bedded together, one each side of the clump of Pandanus over my right shoulder. We dragged them out into the sun for a better photo. Here they are in the positions they fell (or rather, didn't get up from!):

More to follow....

After the "right and left" I was joined by my hunting mate Marty and we chatted briefly, when I had a "sixth sense" there might be more pigs. After saying as much, I took about 2 steps forward and out came the rest of the mob!

I got both barrels onto a large sow before my two mates got into the action. Ravo crumpled another big sow and a medium-size boar with his Merkel double, and Marty picked off the further-most hog in full flight with his scoped Sako .375. That one turned out to be another big tusky boar and made a nice photo.

Almost forgot this big sow from the previous bomb-up, a joint effort as it turned out:

...and here's a nice one bagged later that day in a soak at the head of a paperbark swamp. He was jumped from his wallow and bolted flat-out through the marsh, spray flying. Ravo took him cleanly on the run with the first barrel from his Merkel .470, a very pretty shot to watch!

There were a few more big pigs added to the bag, including another nice trophy tusker, and the last boar taken was yet another ripper! Quite decent hooks and again flattened on the run after bolting out onto the open rise from his bed in a patch of long grass on the creek flat:

As I said, for a buffalo hunt, we sure got a lot of good hogs!
