Alberta Big Horn Rams horns getting smaller due to hunting?

http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/bighorn-sheep-shrinking-due-to-hunters-study-suggests-1.2459623

I find this interesting in lieu of the fact a possible new world record head was found last year as a result of dying of old age..

Interesting piece
Quote:

"The hunt is actually selecting in a direction that is opposite to what natural selection would be," said biologist Marco Festa-Bianchet from the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec. "Normally, a large-horned ram would do very well, but in a hunted population he is more likely to get shot."
[...]
In 1980, a herd would be about 25 per cent rams between four and five years old. After 30 years of hunters picking off males as soon as their horns curled enough, that proportion is down to about 10 per cent.
[...]
The size changes don't threaten the species' health. Bighorn sheep are abundant in Alberta and coexist quite well with humans. But the changes could threaten the province's reputation as the place to go for a trophy bighorn.
[...]
"There's no way out of the problem than reducing the size of the harvest." The province could change its policy of issuing ram tags to every hunter who asks for one. Or it could trim a couple of weeks off the hunting season to give young males a chance to breed without getting shot.

There is a quote in the comments under that story that says that shortening the season would make no difference as the big rams are tracked for weeks leading up and taken on the first morning of the season. I had no idea sheep hunting was so easy.

I think I have 14 preference points for big horn in AB. I don't think they are giving " issuing ram tags to every hunter who asks for one".

Who fact checks this nonsense? The editor should be horse whipped.

The odd time, Sun News Network checks their stories and calls their bullshit exactly that, but no one really cares as only conservatives seem to watch their show.

The best thing for Canada that Harper could do, would be to put a clamp on the public teat that pours money into that worthless communist spewing network full of #$&)*ng #@)gots - or words to that effect.
