Rio 12-bore Slug Success
      #249577 - 26/06/14 09:27 PM

Just read with interest Buchsemann's post on his success with 16-bore Brenneke slugs, and figured the following info might be worth tossing up. Thought about posting it in 'Shotguns' but 'Bore Guns' is perhaps more appropriate given the circumstances. With your kind indulgence...

In Australia, Brenneke slugs are harder to find than rocking-horse sh!t at the best of times, so during the great Brenneke drought of the 'naughties' we explored the available alternatives. The RC4 'Evolution' Palla slugs were an unmitigated disaster in the hunting field, however by contrast the Rio 'Royale' Balla Blindada slugs were highly successful.

Here is a full-grown buffalo cow taken for meat with a single Bala Blindada slug.

I tossed the story up on the Marrakai domain some time back, but never linked it through to the Hunting page.
You can read it here if interested.

Sadly, the Rio slugs are now just as hard to find as the Brenneke Originals it would seem. My attempt to order in a 'flat' of cartridges was eventually unsuccessful and I am now down to the last box! ...which I am stupidly saving for some illogical reason. Our importing agents are seemingly not interested in anything that cannot be mass-marketed for maximum profit. Grrrr!!

Unfortunately there is no importer for Brenneke here in Australia. Most of the gun dealers here are probably to stupid to even know who Brenneke are as the majority have not progressed past a 30-06.

That is indeed a kind offer.
Rain-check for now, but reloading shotgun slugs is something I have always intended exploring further but never got around to doing. When I get a bit more time I'll contact you again on this.

BTW as a 'sheltered' Aussie I have no idea where playmobil gets plates....

Load round balls, boys - in 12 bore - Bluedot, Herco, Unique, Hodgdon's Longshot or AA's Steel are the powders.
Ed Huble's thread here that's been running for years 12 Bore From Hell and data in it that can or will help you get started.

Think about a wad or wad 'arts' that can help keep an undersized ball centered in the bore - worked & works for me.
Too- Ed and others now having possession of his 12 bore wads that hold .58 calibre minnie or other bullets, allows use of bullets of 500 to 600gr. in 12 bores, giving the power of an old .577 BPE. Interesting stuff indeed.

The reason I suggest round balls is they work well in smoothbores as well as rifles.

Stired up my thoughts on 28 bore paradox. Has anyone access to factory loads for this bore. I would like to purchase some for pigs in australia.

I will look for shipment cost to australia, unfortunately it will be a big deal. 100 slugs are over 3 kg so we will see if there is a suitably way to ship this stuff. next week I know probably more about and inform you about this basic cost. will also inquire Brennecke about slug prices because its some times gone since I bought from them.

where playmobil get plates? look at the licence plate of any playmobil car for sale worldwide

they get it all in my rural district, just find it

Shipping heavy items around the world is indeed expensive.
I made up a parcel of wads and round balls for a friend in Yakutsk - so he could load his round balls for deer, rather than have to use buck shot which led them for miles of chasing wounded deer. In 3' to 4' of snow, that's difficult. The box was 10 pounds, as well as being 10" all sides, a cube. The cost quoted me was $340.00 from Fed. Express as that was the only outfit I could find to shit it. I did not send the 'under' $20.00 worth of materials to the lad.
