Mannlicher Shoenauer Parts?
      #248464 - 04/06/14 06:04 PM

I've just started a restoration project on a Steyr Mod. 1903 M-S takedown sporting rifle and was wondering where I could source parts from? In particular, I'm looking for the forearm takedown pin and escutcheon plates. The butt plate trap door is also a bit bent up, so one of them as well.

This rifle also has a tang mounted pop-up sight, but is missing the inner peep aperture sight clip, so I'm looking for one of those a well.

Any suggestions out there?

Cheers,

Rich

Check out these places:

http://www.mannlicher.org/ As a member you can advertise in their newsletter.

http://mannlicherschoenauer.com/home.htm Tom sometimes has various parts, he's good.

http://www.steyrclub.com/vb/threads/4246-Mannlicher-Collector-s-Association A long shot, but ?

Thanks for the info, I've previously written to both the Mannlicher Org and Tom, but no reply from either yet after a number of days now. I even tried a few German/Austrian sites, again no response...

With all the Mannlicher collectors out there, you would have thought there would be more parts/service support for them. I can't even locate a good reference book on the Mannlicher. Maybe that in itself is worth a new post, as to which and where I can locate one(s).

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Rich

That´s a pity but any of such book don´t exists.

Take a look to german eGun net-auction site. There is sometimes for sale parts to Mannlicher Schönauer.

With the MCA, when you subscribe then you're able to run an Wanted ad in their newsletter, reaching people that way. A slow process, but one never knows.

With Tom, I'd suggest giving him a phone call. Keep calling until you reach him!

As most folks involved with Mannlicher Schoenauer rifles/carbines, especially pre-1972 and pre-WWII, are aware of, spare parts merely laying around are a rarity! I've worked gun shows since 1969 and M-S parts are extremely difficult to find. In all these years would say I've only found 2-3 good quality parts (this does not include after market scope bases or receiver sights - which are tough enough to find also). From 1977 through today, at one time I had 18 M-S rifles and carbines, but really no extra parts. Just so difficult to find...

Finding a M-S that has been destroyed/damaged enough, where the owner parts out the M-S is seldom encountered, but is one of the very few ways to find a part(s). Bird dog determination is what it takes. Hang in there...

Maybe list parts you're looking for in some of the firearms auction sites in the Wanted Items section? Might as well fire shots in all directions, might just hit something that way? I wish you well...
--------------------------------------------------
1. The forearm takedown pin, though not exact, a suitable/functional one can be made, until finding an original one.
2. Escutcheon plates should be easy enough to make.
3. Bent butt plate trapdoor: quickest way would be do some major repair work to try and bring it back to original shape. Not an easy accomplishment, seeing how they're cast.

--------------------------------------------------
best of luck in your searching...

Here's a bit more info:

http://www.eschoder.com/english/english-Geschichte.htm
Schoder ceased production in January 2013, no idea if any parts available?

Books that may or may not have helpful info?

1. http://www.amazon.com/Mannlicher-Military-Rifles-Straight-Designs/dp/1931464146

2. http://www.amazon.com/Walther-Mannlicher...her+w.+b.+white

Rare are M-S parts to find these days, always has been difficult finding parts.

Opps....just noticed you're in Australia, so phoning Tom Tomkins isn't too practical!
Just keep sending him emails?

The Mannlicher Collector's Association situation: usual way is to join the association, then post a wanted ad in their newsletter. A bit slow this way, but it is a potential way...

hope ya the best,
awanderingbear

I have a couple of the take down pins from E.Shoder. They are very well made but unfortunately slightly larger in diameter than the original for some reason. Anyway I will part with one if you are interested.

Cheers.

Does anyone have a front sling swivel from a 1952 or 1956 full-wood M-S carbine?
