I am hopefully picking up a 1950 M-S in .270 Winchester that is not a collector grade rifle. It has a pad added and a swivel stud in place of the stirrup sling mount. I am wanting to have JES Reboring rechamber and rebore it to 9.3x62mm. Will the rotor work with this round? I had him rebore a Brno small ring 8x57mm to the 9.3x62mm but unfortunately had to sell it. I think this would be a nice all around gun.
Hopefully yours smith is skilled quy because .270 magazine will probably need some small alternations to feed 9,3x62 which case is a tad fatter and shorter than .270`s. I don´t know what you primarly hunt but IMO .270 Win and 8x57 IS are more allround calibers than 9,3x62 which is a bit heavy side if you mainly hunt in yours domestic animals.
I had that exact same procedure applied to my .270 Winchester 1952 M-S carbine and it worked out OK. Fortunately the smith who did the reboring (Delta Gun Shop/Clearwater Reboring)also understood M-S magazines. There used to be an Austrian company which supplied new parts for M-S rifles, but unfortunately it has gone out of business and I don't know another source for new magazine parts.
Looks like I won the auction. I think I will leave it as a .270 for now and see how it shoots. It comes with a Leupold VX-1 3x9x50 scope. I have to decide if I want to leave that scope on it or switch it out with a Leupold 6x42mm M8 scope with a post and duplex reticle. I will sell the one I don't use.
