I might have asked this before, if so, sorry, can´t remember the reply. Is it OK to dry fire my MS 6.5 x 54 or should I use a snap cap ? thanks in advance, Mike

It´s totally forbitten to dry fire MS 6,5 x 54, even with snap cap. There should always be real ammos in magazinen, rifle cocked and living goal which to aim when pulling trigger....

IMO it´s always better to use snap cap. I use to do one from once fired case; first seat new bullet, crimp it steady and then fill primers hole with piece of hard rubber.

I agree always better to use snap caps..but have also been told and read it will not damage your gun...I don't use them when practicing with my handguns..but do with my rifles as they are more expensive and figure just in case

Mike,

There’s no problem because on that kind of action the firing pin has been designed to endure this type of stress without weaken.
I think that we have often encountered more troubles with ill fitted snap caps and bent extractors lips and, to my knowledge, I have never seen a firing pin breaking when dry firing, either with a M-S or with a Mauser.
You can also disarm the system by lowering the bolt handle while maintaining the trigger, but, of course, you must be certain that it’s done on an empty chamber...!
