Danzig-made 1900 1898 Mauser Action
      #247269 - 10/05/14 07:13 AM

I've a line on a 1900 Danzig made Mauser 1898 action. I've read that pre-1920 actions can be "soft", and as such, unsuitable for building into a sporter - per Frank DeHaas. Can someone confirm or offer comment?

That being said, I'd be looking at rebarreling to something like 7X57 - nothing "hot" or a wildcat.

Suggestions?

Hi Nailcreek, there is no reason why you wouldn't consider that action for a 7x57 or any other std. cartridge for that matter. Have it inspected by someone who KNOWS Mausers first and go from there.
The "soft Mauser' term is very misleading, misunderstood and mostly bullshit.

If it's managed to go 114 years without setting the lugs back I think we can be pretty certain that the action will handle a 7x57 or any other standard cartridge, rebarrel the bastard and go shooting!
