For some reason I can never get right back to the main index using my back button. So whenever I've finished reading a thread and want to get back to the main index I use the back button until I get to the page before the main index, then I have to click on the "Main Index" at the top of the page............all rather annoying.
Any thoughts? It must be something in my profile because it happens on other computers and laptops too!

Sometimes mal-ware in your computer will do things like this, along with re-directing you to other sites.
Malwarebyte anti-malware program (free) will remove them.

GG may depend on what you have set up as the page your short cut opens NE at. I have mine set as the 24 hour search page. So when using the back button I end up back at this 24 hour search page not the main index or my home page. Just a thought.

I checked this as soon as it was posted and I have no problems at all and it all works fine.
No one else has reported the problem. Anyone else experiencing this?
Have a look at how you set up your profile etc. Also your browser set up. As eagle suggests. BTW I too default to the 24 hr search page,
I don't find it a big deal to use the menus anyway and also use that process with multiple tabs open at once.

No issues here.
From what I see there is no setting on this site which would bring this particulsr effect.

Also what browser software and version are you using?
Always good to give all the information as the sw types make a big difference sometimes.

BTW the only way to go direct from the "Main Index" to a thread is if a "last thread" on a forum is selected. Then theoretically selecting back with go back to the Main Index.
However, normally the sequence would otherwise be "MAIN INDEX", FORUM, THREAD, and reversed using the BACK button.
You didn't say what this page actually is: "I get to the page before the main index"? My Home? "A search page"? etc?
