No doubt about the `smiths`s ability.

I dont see it being scratched up on safari though.

Here is the catch.

More is more, until it isn't. Then less is more.

The floorplate is fantastic!
Interestingly, after all that, no checkering.

I'm with Paradox on this one - It's certainly unique, but in a good way. I think the smith/s did a wonderful job on it. No i can't see it being used on safari, but its still a functional piece of tribute art.

No checkering ?? Also the wrist of the stock is much too narrow in proportion to the rest of the rifle .Excellent workmanship but I don't likes the rifles lines or the no checkering

The Ivory Hunter Rifle- Elegance Crafted by Johann Fanzoj

This beautiful fusion of metal, ivory and walnut is a tribute to the gunmakers art. Look for more detail on this elegant rifle in an upcoming issue of SAFARI Magazine.

Does anyone have more information on this rifle?
Calibre?
Other?

At this year's IWA the Ferlach gunmakers showed lots of overdecorated guns, obviously made to the "tastes?" of wealthy Russian and Oriental customers.

I increasing find some of the reactions of people on NE quite disturbing. Anything new or different is criticised. Whatever has happened in recent times to constructive comments.

This is a work of art, not necessarily a user rifle. I would never own it, nor ever afford it, but it is interesting in its unusual features and concepts.

The ivory inlay with "scrimshaw" type engraving of elephant herds, a story of an elephant hunt (I assume) and names of famous elephant hunters. Edged with gold.

The engraving covering the action, mounts, bolt and rear of the barrel represents the hide of the elephant in realistic miniaturised detail. Exquisite in my opinion and also very practical.

The bull elephant peering at the hunter from the floorplate and trigger guard, as if peering around a tree at the approaching hunter, ready to ambush him when at close quarters.

The ivory grip cap depicting the points of a compass, a compass being essential to the intrepid ivory hunter entering new unexplored lands in search of "white gold".

A superb gun case well laid out, with cream coloured furnishings, the case covered in grey elephant hide.

The overall package is a highly unusual, artistically innovative rifle, which would also be usable in the field.

I really like this one.

Yes it's spectacular but sorry, I have to say this:
"Engraving doesn't shoot" my Dad used to say.
He was right and this is still true.
Dad would be surprised how much decoration can be applied to a rifle...

Now I have not seen any mention of the caliber, and interestingly, nobody here asked the question.
Nobody thinks of shooting this...

This is a showroom piece, or made up for a rich pimp...

I think the metalwork is stunning and innovative. If it were me, I would have passed on the inlays and gone with a classic horn forend and checkering. (I'd keep the grip cap though).

By the way, aren't all modern day elephant hunters 'wealthy' in a sense? The price of a hunt can easily hit 150K and then one needs to be able to get away for weeks at a time.
