Trailboss in 500NE

I'm about to try Trailboss behind a 440gn cast in my 500NE. Anyone else done this before? If so, what velocity did you get? I don't have a chrono and am curious.

mauserand9mm, I contacted ADI in 2011 in regard to this. There recommendation was the 70% minimum load up to 100% (no compression) of a seated projectile. There best estimate was between 1100-1500fps, but I have a 30+" barrel. I do have Trail boss now but have never tried it in my .500NE.
One of the many things I have to experiment on yet, getting to the range is always my biggest issue!
Sorry I can't help you in this regard
Best of luck with the load, but the 440 gn NFB load comes out at 1750fps in my rifle turns pigs inside out!
Cheers

I do have reduced loads using the 450gn Woodleigh PP - same powder charge as per my 570gn loads ie 106gn AR2209. Regulation and POI is good. This load follows the "80% rule" - same powder charge, 80% projectile weight. This charge is about 10gns over Graeme's NBF loads - I'll have to try it out.

I sent an email to Hodgdon powders about using Trail Boss, below is there response.
Bob

Trail Boss offers superb versatility in rifle cartridges producing reduced loads using lead or jacketed bullets. Reduced loads make firing such cartridges as the 300 Winchester Magnum or even the 458 Winchester Magnum pure fun!
If you don't see Trail Boss data for your favorite cartridge we have a formula for developing loads for all cartridges and it's simple to follow. This formula may be used in both rifle and pistol applications:

1. Find where the base of the bullet to be loaded is located in the case and make a mark on the outside of the case at this location. Then fill the case to that mark with Trail Boss, pour into the scale pan and weigh. This is your maximum load. Pressures will be below the maximum allowed for this cartridge and perfectly safe to use!

2.Take 70% of this powder charge weight (multiply the maximum load from step 1 by .7), and that is your starting load.

3.Start with this beginning load and work up to your maximum charge, all the while searching for the most accurate reduced load.
